Victor M. Taplin

From the time of his infancy, Victor M. Taplin has been in love with cinema. He spent his childhood and adolescence in Libraries, Museums and at the Movies. In High School Taplin began shooting video.
When Victor Taplin was 18, he moved to Columbia, Maryland where he joined Civil Air Patrol. There he learned to fly under his Commander; Charles W. Dryden Jr., son of one of the Tuskegee Airmen. He also learned to skydive and soar during those years.
In 1978 Taplin met some Filmmakers at a Star Trek Convention and began making Super 8mm movies.
In his early 20’s Taplin attended Kingsborough Community College in New York where in majored in Biology and Chemistry. Finally, the lure of Filmmaking was too strong to resist and in 1981 he entered New York University Film School. Simultaneously, Taplin began his Professional Television Career working as a Cameraman and Editor for Cable Television programs; he also began his Broadcast Operations training as a Cable Systems Transmission and Head-End Engineer.
After receiving his Certificate in Film Production in 1983 from NYU, Taplin was hired by one of his instructors. For five years he worked as a Production Assistant and a Camera Assistant for John Gati Film Effects. John Gati Film Effects specialized in Process Special Effects Cinematography including Animation and Table Top production for such organizations and IBM, Scott’s Lawn Products and General Foods. During those five years Taplin worked as an Assistant Editor and Assistant Camera Operator on “The Toxic Avenger”, “Girls School Screamers and “Class of Nuke ‘Em High”.
In the mid 1980's Victor traveled to Brazil, 3 TIMES! He instantly fell in love with the country, culture, cuisine, language and the women.
Seeking new challenges Victor Taplin went to Orlando, Florida in 1989. Two new Movie Studios were just opening, Disney MGM and Universal. He worked on commercials as a Grip and Electric for “Paradise Island” and “Goofy Games”. Taplin worked on the Special Effects crew for “Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Theater. He also had bit acting roles in “Superboy” and Quest Studios’ “The Dream Trap”. Simultaneously Taplin trained on the Universal back lot at Panavision and while working on the “The Dream Trap” he got the opportunity watch the Film being edited on the then State-of-the-Art platform Montage, forerunner of the Non-linear editing systems we use today.
Returning to New York in 1990, Taplin stumbled into Television News. For the next 13 years he freelanced for such news organizations as CNN, Visnews, Reuter’s, Fox, NBC, CBS, and CNBC. He’s worked as a Cameraman, Video Editor, Satellite Transmission Engineer, and in Digital News. During that time Taplin also worked as a Microwave Truck and Satellite Truck Engineer.
In the early 1990’s Victor teamed up with his friends (from many different film schools, the same ones he met in 1978). And they all worked on the feature film “Knight of Swords” renamed “Orphan of War”. Next, Taplin with his friends Produced the feature film “Run Like Hell.”
In 1995 Taplin became interested in computers and the Internet. While at CBS he met the crew setting up CBS.com. They began to clandestinely train him in web technologies and non-linear and streaming video. In 1997 Taplin met some Techies at the library and they trained in computer tech support. That same year he won an Internship with Bell Technology Group, the precursor of Globex Corporation. There he studied streaming video, web design applications and technical support.
From 1997 to 2000 Taplin worked for Lanop Corporation in Technical Support. There he was tasked with setting up training scenarios for Networking and Systems Administration on both the Microsoft and Novell Server applications.
In 1999 Victor spent 2 semesters at Technical Career Institutes where he was awarded a Dean’s List Certificate.
In 2000, just before the dot-com bust, Taplin worked for FoxNews.com as an associate Video Producer. There he transferred video content from the Broadcast Channel to the website. He also wrote and created original video content.
After FoxNews.com Taplin was a Video Producer for Ungoverned.com. This website was funded by Microsoft for the purpose of creating streaming video content for and linked to their WindowsMedia.com website. In November of 2001 Microsoft decided to “go in another direction.” Three weeks later he met Eny Hanson at a Christmas party.
For the past 7 years Victor has worked on Eny’s Manhattan Cable Television Show “Exotica New York”. In 2008 Victor Taplin worked as a Production Assistant on Veronique Dumbe’s Film Short “The Birthday Party” winner of the Pan African Prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. Victor Taplin is currently training on the RED ONE camera, Producing Streaming Video Projects and is writing a new screenplay.
